Consistent Quality Enhancement Drive of the institution:
From its inception in 2002 as the first self- financing dental college in Kerala, quality enhancement is a hallmark of the institution. PMS College of Dental Science and Research started with a 40-seat intake capacity for BDS Degree course. Dental Council of India and Government of India recognized PMS College of Dental Science and Research in 2007. This was followed by ISO certification in 2008. The Post Graduation in three specialties, viz Conservative dentistry & Endodontics, Prosthodontics and Crown and Bridge and Periodontics, was initiated in 2010, with an intake capacity of three seats. From initial 40 BDS seats, PMS became the first dental college in the state to have an intake of 100 students for
undergraduate course in 2011. By 2011, PG courses started in all the eight specialties.
PMS College of Dental Science and Research was the first dental college in Kerala to obtain NAAC accreditation in 2014, thus commencing the journey of getting accredited and ranked from various national agencies.
Seat enhancement sanction for five seats was obtained from Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in 2017. Thus, PMS Dental College became the first institution among the dental colleges in Kerala to have an intake capacity of five in all the six dental specialties and three seats each for Oral Medicine and Radiology and Oral Maxillofacial Pathology and Microbiology by 2017.
To deliver quality clinical services, diagnosis and treatment to our patients is our prime motto.
Simultaneously to equip our students in advanced treatment strategies, we introduced higher end equipment and procedures such as periodontal microsurgery in 2015, CBCT in 2017 and establishment of an Advanced Dental Science Department in 2017. We are the pioneers in Kerala to introduce Laser and Implantology certificate courses for our students and faculties.
To facilitate a timely and efficient treatment services directly from the specialists, we introduced Priority Clinic in 2018, which is utilized by our patient community. With the excellent ICT technology, PMS was the first dental college to initiate online classes in Kerala during the pandemic era.
Simultaneously we initiated a new intervention in teaching leaning policy of the institution by switching over to student centric small group teaching. The quality in governance and administration was enhanced with the introduction of various designations such as Directors, Assistant Directors and Associate Deans for stratified and streamlined administration. Accordingly the infrastructural up-gradation was done in 2018 with cafeteria model smart classrooms to facilitate small group discussions and learning system. Furthermore to train our students in comprehensive diagnosis and treatment we introduced Comprehensive Clinic System in 2019, which opened the window for individual and focused training for
the clinical students. Indigenously formulated Activity Based Learning (ABLE) system introduced in 2021 was a quality drive to introduced skill and competency-based education in PMS College of Dental Science and Research. Furthermore, establishment of Dental Education Technology Department in 2021, facilitates faculty enrichment and empowerment.
PMS College of Dental science and research is the first dental college in Kerala to achieve the prestigious. A grade with CGPA of 3.10 by National Accreditation and Assessment Council, in second cycle of accreditation in 2022. Moreover in 2022, PMS was featured 35th among the top dental colleges in India Today survey. As a quality culture, we consistently participate in AISHE, NIRF, KIRF, INDIA Today, Week ranking. Great emphasis is laid on timely submission of AQAR, auditing and conducting various quality related seminars under the guidance of a pro-active IQAC.
Installation of CSSD, implementation of infection control policies and NABH accreditation are add-ons to our quality culture in patient management and clinics.
PMS College of Dental Science and Research is also a recognized PhD center by Kerala University of Health Science since 2021. Till date six departments are recognized with 16 PhD Scholars perusing their doctoral studies. The establishment of Central Research Laboratory and the Institutional Review Board along with Institutional Ethics Committee brings in quality research achievements. Institution is also accredited with DSIR-SIRO certification in 2023, which is the first among dental colleges in Kerala to have this achievement.
The MoUs signed with various institutions and organizations are a stepping-stone towards unconditional growth and quality sustenance. PMS Dental College always extends its forefronts by becoming the knowledge partner and academic partner for various national and international conferences. The institution always excels in its outreach and extension programs as a part of social commitment and reaching out to the underprivileged communities of the society and tribal areas of the state by means of its Satellite centers and various camps.
Another milestone in the journey of PMS Dental College is the commencement of three Para-dental Diploma courses namely Dental mechanics, Dental Hygienist and Dental Operating Room Assistant, with the approval from Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of Kerala.
We are always concern with the environmental harmony and biodiversity conservation within our campus and surrounding locality. Our students and faculties are trained in environment preservation & sustenance mechanisms. Miyawaki forests, Biofloc Aquaculture, organic farming and vegetable garden, herbal garden and buggy service inside the campus as an initiative of the institutional Nature club – Club Green Guardians. The maintenance of the lush green environment along with carbon neutrality is the target for upcoming years.
PMS Dental College is the first dental college in Kerala to receive Green Audit Certification from Nature Green Guardian Foundation , Kerala. This encompasses Environment Quality Certification, Energy Audit Certification & Biodiversity- Green Audit Certification.
Grabbing more funded projects & achieving more quality research and its outcomes are our long term challenges and quality enhancement proposals. Acquiring autonomy, introducing more interdisciplinary programs & courses and delivering international standard of education and research and to emerge as an Institution of National Eminence and international repute are our targets.
