Microbiology deals with the study of microscopic organisms such as bacteria, fungi, viruses and protozoa. The department of Microbiology is committed in imparting detailed knowledge regarding the various pathogenic microorganisms and associated diseases, with special emphasis on oral microbiology and diseases of oral cavity, the concepts of sterilization and disinfection and various areas of applied microbiology. It also familiarizes the immunological responses of the host to the pathogens. The teaching modalities include lectures, lecture demonstrations, activity based microteaching, practical demonstrations and exercises along with incorporation of modern digital tools in teaching. This enables the students to apply the basic microbiology concepts and knowledge in related medical and dental subjects in their higher classes.

Highly qualified, experienced and dedicated faculties are the strength of the department. The department holds adequate infrastructure and library facilities for providing excellent training in basic microbiology for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. The department also encourages the post -graduates students to take up microbiology related wet lab research works to enrich their research aptitude.

Student centered education is imparted with Classroom Associated Laboratory System (CLAB). Interdisciplinary learning experience is achieved by collaboration with other departments.
