For the accomplishment of our values the employees of PMS College of Dental Science and Research at all levels are required to follow certain “Code of Conduct”. This Code is merely inclusive and not exclusive or exhaustive.

Background

Institution recognizes that employees are the pillars of our organization, on which our institution is founded, and this Code of Conduct envisages certain basic guiding principles for building and maintaining good interpersonal relationship and share interests amongst all the stakeholders.

Employees come foremost and the following is a set of the underlying essence advocated by the code.

We believe excellence is the key leading to Institutional success. Our Institute aims to refine ourselves by consistent working and perseverance.

  • Our commitment to excellence inspires both employees and the Institute itself to consistently strive for superior outcomes that are exemplary rather than simply satisfactory.
  • Desire for excellence pervades all domains of the Institution from academic programs to extra-curricular programs, from social services to campus environment.
  • Our Institute encourages innovative endeavours by the employees and their significant achievements are well lauded.

Mutual trust and respect very critical

  • We believe in the dignity of labour and no one shall endure any humility or insinuation by virtue of his/ her hierarchy, origin, colour, sexual orientation, personality trait or disability of any kind.
  • Any attempt to do so explicitly or otherwise, by words, conduct or behaviour may add up to breach of the code. Every employee, irrespective of hierarchy to be treated humanely and with due respect and dignity.
  • Any favouritism, distinction or characterization made showing preference or favouritism to protect/ promote interests of certain individual or set of individuals without any reason or business purpose, may add up to discrimination and therefore a code breach.
  • Employees are obliged to wear uniform in a presentable manner keeping in mind the image of the Institution.
  • Employees should not indulge in gossiping, spreading rumours or wasting time sitting with others without any official purpose.
  • Employees are obliged to adhere to the official timings and to avail leave with prior approval.
  • Women employees are to be treated with due dignity, modesty and professionally.
  • Employees are obliged to work in team and to avoid working in silos.
  • Employees should believe in themselves and have “positive” and “Can do” attitude in every work in which he / she is assigned / involved.
  • While dealing with employees, external agencies, stake holders especially in cases of monetary or personal / professional interests leading to any conflict of interest should be reported to the Management. In such a situation, the Management may nominate another person to deal with such cases. However, responsibility lies with the employee to keep the management informed of such conflict of interest at primary level. Any violation of this will be a breach of this code and invite serious consequences.
  • Employees are required to arrange their travel as per travel guidelines and expenditures to be claimed as applicable only.
  • Employees are required to secure the Data Security of Institution system and proper internet usage as per IT guidelines.

  • We inculcate the relevance of community services and volunteerism in our students enabling them to acquire life skills and knowledge, as well as provide a service to those who need it most.

The Institution is committed to promoting diversity, and encourages adequate blend of people from varied cultural, educational, social background to come together and their rich experiences provide a collaborative work culture. Leveraging competency of every individual is coupled with teamwork in a consistent manner leading to upgraded performance and productivity.

Privilege and protection for reporting under the Code

  • It is anticipated that every employee considers compliance of this Code as his/her personal responsibility and inform / alerts the Leadership Team with any abrasion / violation to the code, as and when it comes to the knowledge of the employee.
  • An employee is guaranteed confidentiality regarding his identity for reporting such matters and no employee shall suffer any victimisation for raising genuine issues with the Leadership Team.

Responsibility under the Code

As compliance to the above commitment on the part of the employees, the employees are entrusted with the following responsibilities –

  • Raise issues which are code breaches. It is the responsibility of the employee to confirm that they do not misuse the code by raising frivolous issues, to settle personal scores / differences etc. Any such incident will be considered seriously.
  • Use the Institution resources judiciously and exclusively for assigned purposes, as if it is their personal property.
  • Absolute Care to be taken in using the institution assets in personal possession, while applying them for personal use, during official work e.g. mobile phone, laptop, etc.
  • It is the responsibility of every employee to secure and must maintain absolute confidentiality of information which he / she get to know or acquire during the performance of his / her work. Confidential and business specific information cannot be provided to external parties without the written approval of the concerned Head of the Institution and the Managing Director. Confidential information means any information, which is not in the public realm.
  • While in the employment of the company, devote 100% time and resources to company work and not be involved in any other vocation or a job for monetary benefit otherwise honorary, except for pursuits and aspirations done as a part of academic and cultural excellence.
  • Do not use the power entrusted to any individual for personal gains and shall be governed of schedule of authority and strictly adhere to process of clearances appropriately required.
  • Conduct self with utmost professionalism and deal with consumers and internal stakeholders with utmost sensitivity it deserves.

Any clarification under this code can be pursued from the Institution Authority. Interpretation given by Institution Authority is ultimate and conclusive.

GENERAL PRINCIPLES – CODE OF CONDUCT

The Duration of Undergraduate dental training program (BDS) will be four and a half years in addition to one-year compulsory rotating internship and Postgraduate training program (MDS) for three years.

  • During this period, the students shall be required to engage in full time study at the college.
  • Maintain a high quality of professional ethics and conduct and apply these in all aspects of professional life.
  • Be capable of self-assessment and be willing to upgrade the knowledge & skills from time to time.
  • The student should strive to apply current knowledge gained in the best interest of the patients and the community.
  • Seek to improve awareness and provide feasible solutions for oral health problems.
  • Participate and involve in professional bodies.
  • Willingness to participate in the continuing education programmes, to update knowledge and professional skills from time to time and to apply the acquired knowledge & skills in day-to-day practice.
  • Be Inclined to do research projects.
  • Clinical Record books and Logbooks should be maintained regularly.
  • The student should complete the entire Practical and Term – work such as Journals, Assignments and Projects and candidates pursuing MDS degree course is required to carry out work on a chosen research project under the guidance of a recognized postgraduate teacher.

DISCIPLINE

  • The student must strictly follow the disciplinary rules and regulations of the Institution.
  • The student should follow the academic calendar and the curriculum prescribed by the University.
  • Students are refrained from indulging in anti-institutional, anti-national, antisocial, communal, immoral, or political expressions and activities within the Campus and hostels.
  • Any act of indiscipline or misbehaviour by any student will invite severe punishment.
  • No person shall be invited to address or entertain the students at the college, without the prior written permission of college authorities.
  • All Educational tours or Institutional visits shall be guided by the faculty members after obtaining necessary undertaking from the Parents, Guardian of the students’ and with the written consent of the Head of the Institution.
  • Any case of criminal activity or violation of law and order in the College Campus will be reported to the law enforcement officers.

MDS GENERAL CONDUCT AND BEHAVIOUR

Identity Card: Students shall always carry their Identity card issued by the college; Student without the Identity card may not be allowed to enter the college premises. The Identity card must also be shown as and when asked by the college authorities within the campus.

Proper conduct: Students shall behave in a civilized manner during their stay in the college. They must be co-operative with fellow students and shall not participate in ragging of any student.

Students must not enter any kind of monetary dealings with the teaching and non-teaching staff of the college, nor offer any presents or gratification in any form to them.

Inappropriate usage of language: Students shall neither use such language, which disturbs the other student mentally or physically nor use such words which may hurt the feeling of insult other students.

Students Gate Pass

  1. Students are permitted to leave the campus during college hours only by submission of gate pass issued by Principal/ Administrator to the duty security officer.
  2. Hostel inmates leaving the campus after college hours should obtain the hostel gate pass issued by the Warden and must be handed over on return.

Usage of college premises: Students must leave the college building after their classes are over unless if they have specific assigned work or want to use the library facilities. They are not expected to loiter in the campus before or after their class timings.

Parking Facility: Parking space outside the college is provided to park the vehicles at “OWNER’S RISK” Though a security guard is normally present, the students are advised in their own interest, to lock the vehicles properly to avoid any theft or loss. The college will not be responsible for security of the vehicles.

Tobacco/ drug free college: Intoxicants, including smoking, betel or tobacco chewing are strictly prohibited in the college. No student, after consumption of drugs, alcohol, any intoxicant should enter the premises of the college. Erring students will be fined a minimum of Rs. 5000/ – subject to increase at the discretion of the principal along with appropriate disciplinary action including expulsion from the hostel or the college.

DRESS CODE

Students should strictly adhere to the dress code prescribed by the institution. Students who do not follow the institutional dress will be fined up to Rs 500.

All the non-clinical students must wear apron all the time.

Clinical students should clip on their ID cards on the scrubs.

Students should not wear apron over scrubs.

All the students must wear college ID all the time.

1st year and 2nd year students

For Boys

  • Formal shirts – Neatly ironed, should be tucked in, and must be worn with a tie.
  • Formal trousers – Neatly ironed. Jeans not allowed
  • Neatly polished formal shoes in Black or Brown only, along with cleanly washed socks.
  • Well-groomed, trimmed hair.
  • Trimmed and clean nails.
  • Apron – Neatly ironed, clean, white full sleeve with the institution’s logo and Identity Card.
  • Boys should be neatly shaven.

For Girls

  • Kurta/Salwar-Kameez and should be below the knee.
  • Bottoms – should be at ankle level.
  • Hair should be well-groomed and properly tied up.
  • Trimmed and clean nails.
  • Apron – Neatly ironed, clean, white full sleeve with the institution’s logo and Identity Card.

Third and final year students and interns

  • Scrub suit – charcoal grey colour (students) grape wine colour (interns)
  • Trimmed and clean nails.
  • Hair well-groomed properly tied up.
  • Boys should be neatly shaven.
  • Students should wear ‘clogsor formal shoes.
  • Casual shoes will not be allowed.
